A Study for Distribution CEA in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Uterine cervix

Abstract
Carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) isolated from adenocarcinoma of human digestive system and fetal or embryonic gut tissue is one of tumor associated antigen. In recent years, presence of the CEA in various tumors and inflammatory disease has been reported but studies in squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix, common malignant tumor in Korea, was rare. Therefore, to understand positive rate of CEA according to cell type of squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix the author collected serial 113 cases of formalin fixed, paraffin embedded uterine cervix carcinoma obtained by biopsy and hysterectomy, then performed immunoenzyme histologic reaction by Avidin-Biotin-Complex method using anti-human CEA rabbit serum and analyzed -their histologic reaction.
Results obtained are as followings
1. CEA positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 82 Cases(73%) of the 113 cases with squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix.
2. CEA positive reaction to anti-CEAantibody was noted in 25 cases(86%) of 29 cases
with large cell, keratinizing type of squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix.
3. CEA positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 55 cases(72%) of the 76
cases with large cell, nonkeratinizing type of squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix.
4. CEA positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 2 cases of 8 cases with small cell type of squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix.
